Shane Gonzales: From T-Shirts to Runway Shows

Shane Gonzales is the founder and artistic director of Midnight Studios. Many fashion enthusiast and designers alike are finally giving this young man the respect he deserves. As a teenager, he began interning with SSUR before founding Midnight. Shane began quite small, starting with t-shirts and “do it yourself” projects. Some of his biggest inspirations for his clothing were punk rock bands such as The Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedys.

Shane has undeniably influenced by the 1970-80’s punk rock scene. The raw sounds of Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten, Shane had taken notice of their anti-authoritarian philosophy. After repeatedly seeing certain photos from old punk magazines, records, and books that he has acquired over the years, Shane was inspired to reach out to the photographers and do something more with the images he has grown so fond of.

Shane has only put a few seasons worth of clothes and has already cemented himself as one of the bests in high end streetwear. Gonzales’s creativity when it comes to his garments is top notch. From the cut and sew jobs on his hoodies and relined hems on his tee shirts, Shane obvious cares about every piece he puts out. On top of celebrities such as A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, Ian Connor, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Uzi Vert, among others wearing his pieces, Shane has already collaborated with very well known designer, Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White.

Many huge corporations have taken notice of Shane’s creative abilities. Just the other day Shane was previewing a collaboration with Guess on his Instagram (@shaneaveli). He was featuring a stone wash denim combined with a bleach wash to make one pair of jeans. Pockets are relined on some pairs and others have full zippers on the inseam. Shane has been going fucking crazy with these last few seasons, so i’m very excited to see what else he has in store.
