Inside Look Ep. 4 : BkTheRula

Atlanta Vs. The World!

Emerging artist BKTHERULA, from Atlanta, Georgia, has made a name for herself in the last couple of years. If you don’t know her yet, trust me when I say that’ll change very soon. With only 21 songs on her Soundcloud in the last year, including her album Love Santana, BK is a huge advocator of quality over quantity. That’s something rare to find in the industry today as artists are typically dumping music to please their fans. Of the 21 tracks on her Soundcloud, you can’t really tie BKTHERULA to any specific style. She’s doing it all, and showing us that she can’t be limited. Whether it be a hard, aggressive, energetic song or a melodic autotune filled song, everything that’s put out has replay value. There’s no doubt in my mind that BKTHERULA is going to be a star. I recently spoke with BKTHERULA on her upbringing, where her name came from, her influences, and her goals. Check it out below!

Chandy: How’d you get your name Bktherula?

Bktherula: Well, BK is my name lol. But I’ve always looked at myself as a leader and a trendsetter.. a rula!

Chandy: Why did you start making music? And when did you choose to take music seriously?

Bktherula: I come from a very musical family, but I’ve been creating since I was a kid. Music helps me to express my feelings as well as heal me. I started taking music seriously after I realized how many people support my craft and want to see me succeed.

Chandy: Who influences your sound?

Bktherula: Me. If someone were to ask me this question a year ago, I would probably give them a list of artists, but as I become more aware and in tune with the world and myself, my own music, my own voice, experiences, and energy inspire my creations.

Chandy: You’re more of a quality over quantity type of artist, and that’s somewhat rare these days with a lot of underground artists just dumping music for their fans. Can you speak more to that and why you choose that route?

Bktherula: The songs I choose to share are the songs I feel the most. The ones that help me figure out life’s secrets.

Chandy: How has this whole Coronavirus stuff influenced your music drops? Are you planning on dropping another tape with more time now or just singles?

Bktherula: Well, I prefer not to speak on that. Just know that I am taking this time to grow as a human and learn more about the world. Self-care, me time.

Chandy: What’s your ultimate goal in music?

Bktherula: I want to guide as many souls to awareness as I can. And In my next life, I’m going to do the same thing. My message will be spread forever.

Chandy: Who are your favorite producers to work with?

Bktherula: I prefer to not answer this question, I work with so many talented people.

Chandy: How do you feel about being a female rapper in an otherwise male dominated rap scene?

Bktherula: Female or male, who cares. We all create, and I think that’s cool.

Chandy: What’s something you want your fans to know about you that they can’t get from your music?

Bktherula: The answer to everything lives within my creations, I promise. You just have to listen closely.
